Recyclable Products and Packaging

Pixels Without Borders products and packaging are largely recyclable. Circuit boards, metal, and plastic from product units can be dismantled and recycled by our recycling partner(s) in the United States and Canada according to Federal, State, and local authority guidelines. Cardboard, printed guides (paper), CDs, and plastic bags from our packaging can also be recycled, as well as some foam materials. For EPEAT certified displays, wood-based fiber packaging contains a minimum of 35% recycled content by total weight of wood-based fiber.

EPS Foams – Expanded Polystyrene Foams

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam is a lightweight, rigid, closed-cell insulation used as part of our packaging to firmly support our products during transit. Besides retired electronics, cardboard materials, and plastic bags, the EPS foams are recyclable too! Each year, more than 50% of all EPS collected was used to make recycled-content packaging.

Pixels Without Borders supports governing laws of all participating states for proper recycling, reuse, and refurbishment of retired electronics and a ban on certain types of electronic waste in landfills. We have implemented a Mail Back program in the United States and Canada to recycle Covered Electronic Devices (CEDs)*. EPEAT

WHAT IS EPEAT?

EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) is a definitive global rating system for greener electronics. This independent registry helps purchasers in the public and private sectors evaluate, compare, and select electronic devices – including displays, desktops, and notebooks – based on verified environmental attributes.

EPEAT establishes clear, consistent environmental performance criteria across three tiers:

  • Bronze: Meets all required criteria

  • Silver: Meets required + at least 50% optional criteria

  • Gold: Meets required + at least 75% optional criteria

The system assesses products across their lifecycle on:

  • Reduction/elimination of environmentally sensitive materials

  • Material selection for recyclability

  • Product longevity and upgradability

  • Energy conservation

  • End-of-life management

  • Corporate performance

  • Packaging sustainability

Manufacturers use EPEAT to demonstrate environmental responsibility through third-party verification.

Responsible Minerals Sourcing Policy

Policy for High-Risk Minerals

Where minerals such as tin, tantalum, tungsten, gold (3TG), and cobalt are mined in conflict-affected or high-risk areas such as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and adjoining countries, revenue from these minerals can fund armed groups committing human rights atrocities. Minerals from such regions risk promoting conflict, rights violations, and environmental degradation.

Pixels Without Borders recognizes mining as an intensive process with social and environmental risks. We believe mineral extraction – including 3TG and cobalt from the DRC and other regions – must be responsibly managed.

Our Commitment:

We categorically reject complicity in human rights violations or environmental destruction. When sourcing minerals from conflict-affected areas, we:

  • Prohibit tolerating, profiting from, or facilitating human rights abuses

  • Refuse to support operations degrading socioeconomic or environmental stability

  • Require full supply chain compliance through our RMI membership

Implementation Framework:

  1. Supplier Engagement

    • Mandate adherence to our Responsible Minerals Policy (aligned with RBA Code of Conduct)

    • Require promotion of compliance throughout supply chains

  2. Mineral Prioritization

    • Focus due diligence on tin, tungsten, tantalum, gold, and cobalt

  3. Due Diligence Enforcement

    • Require suppliers to conduct OECD-aligned due diligence

    • Mandate routine reporting using RMI tools for supply chain transparency

  4. Verified Sourcing

    • Procure minerals exclusively from RMAP-verified smelters/refiners

    • Require proof of compliance throughout processing chains

  5. Regulatory Vigilance

    • Continuously monitor global regulations (US, EU, etc.)

    • Proactively adapt practices to emerging requirements

Accountability:

As an RMI member, we maintain documentation of our due diligence processes. Our Responsible Minerals Report is available upon request via info@topooptix.com.
